Common Courtesies Cont'd

5. When you commit to something or to someone, don't take that commitment lightly. Follow through with it or arrange for someone else to take your place. And be there on time. Most people have other important things to do which may be hindered by your tardiness. It's true "better late than never", but it is not courteous.

  1. MORE COMMON(?) COURTESIES...

Never ask an Arkansan how his/her garden is doing in the months of August or September. They will either ignore your question, mumble some embarrassed answer, or be tempted to lie. Therefore, it is an insensitive question and should be avoided by those seeking to develop the finer qualities. (If you're trying to strike up a conversation, ask a question about fishing, instead.)

In case anybody is wondering, no, I haven't been offended by some insensitive friend. It's just that I've observed that gardens don't like Arkansas in the late summer (or is it that Arkansas doesn't like gardens?) Either way, to me, it's God's way of saying, "Hey, you've slaved away out there all summer! Why don't you go do some fishing!?"

    Thank you, Lord!
